Simply put, the Portland Trail Blazers had one of the worst benches in the entire league this season, Only three bench players, rookies Meyers Leonard, Victor Claver and Will Barton, playing meaningful minutes. None of them influenced the game.
Among the Blazers' 7,995 points, more than 75% - 6,209 points, to be exact - came from the starters. The rest of the 10 bench players combined to score a lacking 1,786 points. The playing time is largely skewed as well, since 19,855 total minutes of the season, about 70 percent—13,488 minutes—came solely from the starters.
From the examples of the San Antonio Spurs, it's easy to see that regular-season success comes with a deep roster. Added depth is a must for the Blazers if the team looks for a postseason appearance.
