Stephen Colbert’s Tribute To The City Of Boston Was A Thing Of Beauty

Tributes to the city of Boston continue to pour in from the world of sports, with the Yankees making yet another classy gesture on Tuesday by playing the Red Sox anthem Sweet Caroline during their game (video below). Oh, there go my dust allergies again …

But of all the tributes to Beantown I've seen so far, Stephen Colbert's opening to the Colbert Report on Tuesday night may have been the best of all:

"But whoever did this obviously did not know shit about the people of Boston. 'Cause nothing these terrorists do is going to shake them. For Pete's sake Boston was founded by the Pilgrims, a people so tough, they had to buckle their goddamned hats on."

The Red Sox adopted Sweet Caroline — Neil Diamond's 1969 soft rock hit — as their unofficial anthem in 1997, and although other teams had played it at games previously, most people associate it with the Red Sox. On Tuesday we told you about the sign on the outside of Yankees Stadium paying tribute to Boston, and then the team sent out this tweet:
