Certain, Tianlang Guan has only one event under his belt, but this 14-year-old has people gushing. The great Gary Player,AviaANola.com'sAPeter Finney, had this to express after Guan made the lower at the Masters: Itas the 2nd best thing Iave ever noticed in golf. The one thing better was Tiger Woods winning a Slam at 24. What Guan did at 14, on a creature greens, was beyond belief. The second-best thing Player has ever seen? Start with Player going toe-to-toe with Jack Nicklaus whilst the Golden Bear chased history, Player has seen it all. It's difficult to disagree with him, though. Guan was the youngest individual in the real history of the tournament, and as he headed in to the biggest tournament in the entire world on a program that puts a premium on length he naturally didn't have Tour-quality length. And he made the cut while finishing 58th. He was rattled by nothing. Maybe not the epic point, the towering figures who were suddenly his rivals, as well as his one-stroke penalty for taking too long to play his shot. I would not think a 14-year-old can follow-up that kind of performance with still another solid outing, but Guan should not have made the cut at the Masters in the first place. I can not wait to watch his encore.
