Top Category Tournament Could Come to USA In Next Several Years, Says Richard Scudamore

EXCLUSIVE: Premier League Leader Richard Scudamore is positive a summer tournament, just like the bi-annual Barclays Asia Trophy opposition, could be kept in the United States Of America in the forseeable future. Scudamore was in Nyc on Tuesday for the start of NBCas ambitious plans to showcase the Premier League on US television for 2013-2016. In an exclusive interview with EPL Talk, Scudamore was asked whether an American type of a Barclays Trophy might be a possibility. aI think undoubtedly next few years. Obviously, [Premier League] groups are accustomed to coming [to the USA] anyway. Some clubs are going to be touring [the States] soon after the summer season ends, and a year ago 4 or 5 clubs were here. aI could see [a Premier League match happening] in the not very distant future. Who knows, maybe in the definition of with this broadcasting contract, what can be described as a Barclays America Trophy.a The Barclays Asia Trophy is just a summer event held every couple of years. This summer, the event is likely to be held in Hong Kong, while the competition has been held in China, Thailand and Malaysia in previous years. The groups scheduled to perform in Hong Kong this September are Birmingham Town, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur and South China FC.
