Newcastle versus. Benfica, 2013 Europa League: Final score 1-1 (2-4...

While Papiss Cisse gave Newcastle a of hope, Benfica were eventually too good to allow the Magpies ensure it is to the Europa League semifinals. Benfica are right through to the Europa League semfinals after having a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at St. David' Park. Holding a 3-1 lead from the first leg in Portugal, the Eagles did not need certainly to bother about much for some of the game -- while Papiss Cisse got the hosts to within a goal in the 71st moment, there was never too much pressure on Artur's goal, and an accident time attack from Eduardo Salvio killed off the tie and preserved the readers' unbeaten streak. Newcastle were on the back foot for some of the initial half, handling just two images, both from selection, prior to the break. They did get the ball in the net through Cisse, who had hit the post twice in Lisbon, but his volley was eliminated for offside, as was a second in the 66th second. Nevertheless the development came in short order as Cisse turned a Shola Ameobi corner, leaving the Magpies with some faint hope of making it through. That hope was dashed by way of a mixture of poor refereeing, poor decision making and poor finishing and then, eventually, Salvio's late hit, which saw the Benfica person smash an Oscar Cardozo pass beyond Tim Krul in the 91st moment. That was all it needed to see the visitors through, but Newcastle may take heart that if not for some unlucky bounces over the course of 180 minutes, it could have been then going to the semifinals.
